The College Basketball Invitational has reached the Semifinal Round with games tonight in Richmond, VA and Corvallis, OR. Both semifinal games will be televised on HDNet.
At 8:00 PM ET, the Richmond Spiders (20-15) take on the UTEP Miners (21-12). Richmond has taken out St. John's and College of Charleston to reach this point. They have been led by the play of their backcourt... Kevin Anderson and Daniel Gonzalvez. The pair have accounted for 56% of the Richmond offense (83 of 149 points) while shooting 54% from the floor and 64% (9-14) from the three-point line. Meanwhile, UTEP is led by guard Stefon Jackson, who has a pair of 26-point efforts in wins over Nevada and Northeastern. Guard Randy Culpepper has come off the bench to average 18.5 ppg in those wins.
Then at 10:00 PM ET, Oregon State (15-17) and Stanford (20-13) meet for the fourth time this season. The Pac-10 rivals saw the Beavers win the two regular season games, only to have the Cardinal get a measure of revenge with a victory in the Pac-10 Tournament. Calvin Haynes scored 19 points, including the game-winner with :06 left in overtime to beat Vermont by a 71-70 score to reach the semis. Stanford has beaten up their two opponents, taking out Boise State (96-76) and Wichita State (70-56).
The winners will meet in the Best of Three Championship Series beginning next Monday.
